SHARJAH // The world’s heaviest gold ring is to be on show in the emirate next month.

The ring, dubbed the Star Of Taiba, weighs 58.686 kg and is studded with 5.17kg of Swarovski stones. It will be on display at the Expo Centre Sharjah as part of the 39th MidEast Watch & Jewellery show taking place from October 6-10.

“The ring was created in 2000 and cost nearly US$550,000 when gold was US$250 per ounce. Its value has multiplied several times by now, with gold trading near US$1,150. I am sure the ring will generate tremendous buzz among visitors,” said Saif Al Midfa, Chief Executive of Expo Centre Sharjah.

The Star of Taiba took a team of 55 people from Saudi Arabia 45 days to make.

The MidEast Watch & Jewellery Show will showcase 500 exhibitors and brands, with a daily raffle for shoppers.

The show will be open from noon to 10pm, Tuesday and Thursday and 4pm-7pm on Friday. A ladies-only day will be held on Wednesday between noon and 4pm.
