DUBAI // Twelve wooden cabins that were used as workers’ accommodation in Ras Al Khaimah were destroyed in a fire on Tuesday.

The cabins housed workers from the Department of Public Works and Services in Al Qusaidat. The men were able to escape as the fire spread and were trying to extinguish the flames when teams from RAK Civil Defence arrived.

Brig Gen Mohammad Al Zaabi, director of Civil Defence, said the operations room received a report about the fire at 1.30pm.

Vehicles and fire engines from Civil Defence headquarters and Al Helaila and Al Muroor stations were sent to the scene, along with water tankers from the Department of Public Works.

Brig Gen Al Zaabi said crews were able to put out the fire in 20 minutes.

No one was hurt and investigations into the cause of the blaze have begun, reported Aletihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.
