DUBAI// A woman who used her compatriot’s ID card when she was brought to hospital, after having a miscarriage, has been sentenced to three months in jail.
Russian Z J, 31, was charged with using an original official document - an Emirates ID card - belonging to her friend and presenting it to Al Baraha Hospital staff as her own.
Prosecutors told Dubai Criminal Court that on April 2 this year, the defendant was rushed to hospital after calling 999 reporting that she was bleeding heavily.
The woman denied the charge of purposely using someone else’s ID card.
“I was very sick and I didn’t know I was using the wrong card,” she told the court.
A hospital data registrar working on the emergency desk on the morning of the incident told the court he could not remember whether Z J submitted any identification. “Since she was losing her baby I did not focus on whether she gave me an ID or not,” said S R, 32, from India.
The defendant will be deported after serving her jail term.
