DUBAI // A well-educated Emirati has been arrested after police seized a record haul of marijuana plants.

Dubai Police chief Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzeina said K A A, 48, had 38 plants at his villa and was very experienced in growing and producing marijuana.

“This man has two master’s degrees, a good job, a good position,” Gen Al Muzeina said. “He also had the experience and means to do what he was doing.

“He had all the equipment and the technology to grow marijuana out of people’s sight.”

He did not reveal the emirate in which the suspect lived, but said the accused had used the drug and intended to sell it.

“We arrested him on Friday while he was in Dubai in his car, in which we found some marijuana,” said Gen Al Muzeina.

“We found it in the ashtray, in a small bag on the passenger’s seat, in a paper bag in the back of the vehicle and some in the trunk, ready to be sold.

“The UAE does not have many such cases.”

The case has been referred to prosecutors.
