SHARJAH // A fire burnt down a waste paper warehouse in the emirate’s Industrial Zone 12 on Tuesday.

Sharjah’s Civil Defence teams extinguished the blaze and no there were no casualties, The National’s Arabic sister paper, Al Ittihad, reported.

Brig Gen Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, director general of Sharjah’s Civil Defence, said the incident was reported to the operations room at 1pm, after the fire caused dense smoke to emanate from the warehouse.

Firefighters from the general administration and from Samnan and Sajaa stations rushed to the scene, along with water tankers from Sharjah Municipality, to get the fire under control.

The Civil Defence chief said the fire was controlled and extinguished quickly and he urged companies, and specifically warehouses, to comply with security and safety requirements and periodically check safety equipment to ensure proper functionality.
