DUBAI // A waiter took advantage of a drunk woman and raped her after she left a nightclub, Dubai Criminal Court heard.
Egyptian MK, 23, denied charges of rape, molestation and theft when he appeared in court on Tuesday morning.
Prosecutors said that on September 20 last year the Belarusian victim stepped out of the club at the Palace Hotel, in Al Barsha, at 3am when she was shoved and dragged by the defendant into an alley.
She told police corporal AA that the waiter pushed her to the ground before taking her underwear off and raping her, though she said the attack did not last long as she fought him throughout.
The corporal said: “She said that he then robbed Dh1,500 she had on her at the time of the incident before he threw her bag away and fled.”
The victim, AD, whose age and nationality were not mentioned in records, was questioned by police when she was not under the influence of alcohol.
The waiter was arrested and prosecutors quizzed him. He denied raping her but confessed to molesting her. He said that as he molested her, he spotted the cash so he snatched it out of her bag, then ran away.
Surveillance recordings from outside the nightclub showed a man chasing a woman then trying to pull down her underwear. The two figures go out of the camera’s range for about five minutes before the man is seen again zipping up his trousers.
The arresting officer, EA, said that he attended to the woman after she called reporting the incident and that she told him the defendant had stolen Dh3,000.
“When we arrested him we only found Dh1,000 in his possession,” testified EA.
The next hearing will be on March 8.
