DUBAI // A waiter crashed his car into a police vehicle while trying to flee from a drug bust, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On December 8 last year, Bangladeshi K M, 37, was arrested after selling methamphetamine to an undercover officer, prosecutors said.

Police were tipped off that K M was selling drugs in International City.

An undercover officer met K M, who arrived in a car with two unidentified men, and paid him Dh300 for the drugs.

When they completed the deal, the officer identified himself and tried to arrest the defendant.

Emirati police officer A S told the court that K M crashed into a police car while trying to drive away.

K M was charged with drug trafficking, drug consumption and destruction of property.

He denied the charges, telling the judge that the drugs were for his own use.

The next hearing is April 23.
