Vehicles impounded as RAK Police get tough on traffic offences

RAK // A total of 62 vehicles have been impounded by Ras Al Khaimah Police for various traffic violations since the launch of an inspection campaign.

Violations included driving without a licence, tinting windows above the maximum permitted levels, having an expired vehicle licence, driving an uninsured vehicle on the road, reckless driving, failure to check a car following a major engine modification, forged licence plates and noisy engines.

Brigadier General Ghanem Ahmed Ghanem, director general of central operations at RAK Police, said awareness campaigns were launched in various parts of the emirate before the inspection campaigns.

Police officers visited residential areas to talk directly to residents and offer safety guidance and advice.

He confirmed that inspection campaigns would be carried out for one month and would cover all of the emirate's regions.

Vehicles will remain impounded until all pending fines are settled and causes of impoundment are lifted.

RAK Police also warned against the use of "sun reflectors" on the windscreen as it significantly compromises visibility and leads to serious accidents. Motorists caught in violation of this rule face a Dh500 fine.
