ABU DHABI // The prices of meat and vegetables increased by 20 per cent and 5 per cent respectively by vendors in Mina Market on the eve of Ramadan.
According to Al Ittihad, The National's Ararbic sister publication, workers at Mina Market expressed their anger at the price rise, which they claim happens every year on this occasion.
They said some vegetable and meat vendors were deliberately involved in price manipulation in a market that is dependent on demand and supply.
Workers called on the Ministry of Economy to find a solution with certain vendors who sell in bulk, saying that these control the market and prompt some people to leave their business and look for a stable job, away from worries and monopoly.
Nadder Mohammed Moussa, who works at the meat market, said he hade been trading in meat for a long time and prices did not increased until Ramadan arrived, when the price of Arabian meat went up 20 per cent.
The farmers were responsible for the price rise, he said.
