In the wake of a 2012 decree by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, who ruled that every emirate should have its own flagpole, two 120-metre flagpoles in Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah have been erected for National Day.

The flagpoles have been erected by Trident Support, the Dubai-based company, responsible for the 123-metre Abu Dhabi pole, which held the record for the tallest in the world when it was built in 2002.
