The British prime minister, David Cameron, yesterday concluded a two-day visit to the UAE, one of his first foreign trips since taking office last month.
Mr Cameron, who heads the UK's new governing Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition, met Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, together with other senior officials.
Following his meetings, Mr Cameron said: "The deep friendship between the UK and the UAE is based on a unique, shared history and common interests. But even more important than these is our common future.
"Also, with so many important business relationships and investments in both our countries, we both want to build and develop our economic ties."
A Downing Street spokesman said: "The prime minister and his hosts ? discussed a wide range of issues, including Afghanistan - where British and UAE forces are working closely together - Iran and further steps to strengthen the bilateral relationship."

1 tbsp Spirulina powder
1 banana
1 cup unsweetened coconut milk (full fat preferable)
1 tbsp fresh turmeric or turmeric powder
½ cup fresh spinach leaves
½ cup vegan broth
2 crushed ice cubes (optional)
Method
Blend all the ingredients together on high in a high-speed blender until smooth and creamy.

Tailors and retailers miss out on back-to-school rush
Tailors and retailers across the city said it was an ominous start to what is usually a busy season for sales.
With many parents opting to continue home learning for their children, the usual rush to buy school uniforms was muted this year.
“So far we have taken about 70 to 80 orders for items like shirts and trousers,” said Vikram Attrai, manager at Stallion Bespoke Tailors in Dubai.
“Last year in the same period we had about 200 orders and lots of demand.
“We custom fit uniform pieces and use materials such as cotton, wool and cashmere.
“Depending on size, a white shirt with logo is priced at about Dh100 to Dh150 and shorts, trousers, skirts and dresses cost between Dh150 to Dh250 a piece.”
A spokesman for Threads, a uniform shop based in Times Square Centre Dubai, said customer footfall had slowed down dramatically over the past few months.
“Now parents have the option to keep children doing online learning they don’t need uniforms so it has quietened down.”
