ABU DHABI // The weather bureau is warning sailors and drivers to be careful as unstable conditions are expected to affect much of the country on Monday.
Sailors were warned to avoid entering the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, while motorists were cautioned against low visibility caused by blowing dust and sand. Flooding due to rain may also be possible.
“Unstable weather conditions are still affecting the country and the country is under the influence of this situation,” said meteorologist Sufian Farrah.
There was heavy rain in Ras Al Khaimah and most of the country experienced rain overnight on Saturday and early Sunday morning, with the heaviest in Tuwa Al Ejeli, where 11.2 millimetres fell. In Abu Dhabi, 0.4mm of rain was recorded and more light rain was predicted for Monday afternoon.
The forecast also predicted “moderate to fresh winds, strong at times, especially with the cloud activity”, which may lead to blowing dust and sand, possibly reducing the horizontal visibility at times over open areas, according to the weather bureau. “The sea will continue rough to very rough in the Gulf and Oman Sea, especially with cloud activity.”
Temperatures are predicted to drop throughout the day, reaching a low between 12°C and 17°C on the coast and between 5°C and 10°C in the mountainous regions of the north. Most areas of the country will be cloudy or partly cloudy. The wind may reach up to 45kmh.
