Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi is calling for a stronger response to humanitarian crises by the global community.

“We aim to develop and formulate direct solutions to respond effectively against all human rights abuses before they escalate,” said the Minister of International Cooperation and Development.

Sheikha Lubna made her comments in a meeting with Stephen O’Brien, the United Nations’ undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs, in Abu Dhabi.

They discussed enhancing relations between the UAE and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Mr O’Brien stressed the UN’s aim to improve the international community’s response to the humanitarian crises across the world, Wam reported.

At the meeting, Sheikha Lubna also highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria and the lack of a comprehensive solution to the problem.

“The current situation for host countries of Syrian refugees and of displaced Syrians inside the country, especially the terrible conditions that Madaya residents are suffering from, have obliged us to harness all possibilities to reach effective and practical solutions from all international humanitarian donors and countries,” she said.
