The UAE will back all international efforts to reach a lasting peace in the Middle East through the creation of an independent Palestinian state, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, said yesterday during talks with European Union officials. Sheikh Mohammed met in Abu Dhabi with Javier Solana, the EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, the state news agency, WAM, reported.
Mr Solana visited the Emirates as part of a regional tour. During the talks, Sheikh Mohammed said the European Union played a vital role in bringing peace and stability to the region, WAM reported. The parties reviewed efforts to revive the Middle East peace process and discussed ways in which to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians. They also discussed the global financial crisis and ways to mitigate the impact through greater international co-ordination.

UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.
The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.
Cases filled with cash that was said to amount to $560m in 100 dollar notes, that was kept by a group of Libyans in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
A second stash was said to have been held in Accra, Ghana, inside boxes at the local offices of an international human rights organisation based in France.
