A medical centre funded by the UAE has opened for Syrian refugees in Jordan and is treating up to 600 patients a day.

Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, visited Jordan’s Zaatari Refugee Camp, home to about 90,000 displaced Syrians.

Sheikha Lubna opened the camp’s medical centre, which is supported by the UAE’s Big Heart Campaign for Syrian Refugee Children.

She toured the clinic, which is open 24 hours a day, and was briefed by representatives of the UN High Commission for Refugees and the Jordan Health Aid Society.

The Big Heart Campaign has given US$5 million (Dh18.3m) to support the UN’s health work in Jordan.

Services provided at the centre include primary, mental and reproductive health, and rehabilitation, nutrition and management of non-communicable chronic diseases.
