A government committee has finished a debate on proposed federal legislation that would create a nationwide child protection system, according to Wam, the state news agency.
The 72-article drafted Child Rights Law lays out a range of children's rights and describes protective mechanisms and penalties to prevent abuse and neglect.
The Ministerial Committee for Legislations finalised debate on the law yesterday, Wam said. The draft must go through several more steps before it becomes a law.
