Two workers have died and 29 others were injured in a bus crash on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road in Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday.

Police said the bus, carrying 31 workers of Asian origin, swerved off the road at 12pm but did not say if the vehicle crashed into an object or if it rolled.

Brig Mohammed Al Humaidi, director general of central operations at RAK police, said two passengers died on impact while six sustained "moderate to severe injuries". The 23 others were only slightly hurt, he said.

Ambulances took the injured to hospital.

“Accidents involving buses and trucks always lead to serious damage and injuries that can lead to death,” said Brig Al Humaidi, who called on motorists to follow traffic rules and have their tyres checked over the summer.
