SHARJAH // Two men died after getting into trouble while swimming off the Sharjah coast yesterday, bringing the number of drowning deaths in the emirate to five in two weeks.
Both incidents happened at about 3pm. A 33-year-old from Ghana was killed off Hamriya, while a 25-year-old Nepalese man died while swimming off Al Mamzar beach. The Ghanaian man's body was taken to Khalifa Bin Zayed Hospital in Ajman, while the body of the Nepalese man was taken to Kuwaiti Hospital in Sharjah.
A police spokesman said that in both cases the men were dead by the time rescue teams arrived.
Police urged anyone visiting the emirate's beaches to be careful and avoid swimming in dangerous areas or rough seas.
