Workshop specialising in luxury vehicles opens in Sharjah

SHARJAH // A workshop for luxury cars has been launched by Emirates Transport.

The maintenance workshop opened in Industrial Area 12 this week and specialises in offering auto services to corporate clients and individual owners of luxury and premium-brand vehicles.

Mohammed Al Jarman, general manager of Emirates Transport, said the garage is the first commercial project to be launched by a government entity and the move is to diversify services offered to residents.

”We’re currently studying and evaluating various opportunities to target individual clients. We’re also working on upgrading our services and facilities and attracting the best technicians with the aim of becoming a big player in what is a very competitive market,” said Mr Al Jarman.

The launch of the service in Sharjah is an initial step, as work is under way to open a main workshop in Al Quoz, Dubai.

The workshop will also service Emirates Transports own luxury vehicles.

What is a robo-adviser?

Robo-advisers use an online sign-up process to gauge an investor’s risk tolerance by feeding information such as their age, income, saving goals and investment history into an algorithm, which then assigns them an investment portfolio, ranging from more conservative to higher risk ones.

These portfolios are made up of exchange traded funds (ETFs) with exposure to indices such as US and global equities, fixed-income products like bonds, though exposure to real estate, commodity ETFs or gold is also possible.

Investing in ETFs allows robo-advisers to offer fees far lower than traditional investments, such as actively managed mutual funds bought through a bank or broker. Investors can buy ETFs directly via a brokerage, but with robo-advisers they benefit from investment portfolios matched to their risk tolerance as well as being user friendly.

Many robo-advisers charge what are called wrap fees, meaning there are no additional fees such as subscription or withdrawal fees, success fees or fees for rebalancing.

Tips for taking the metro

- make sure you have at least Dh15 on you Nol card, as there could be big queues for top-up machines

- enter the right cabin. The train may be too busy to move between carriages once you're on

- don't carry too much luggage and tuck it under a seat to make room for fellow passengers

Stormy seas

Weather warnings show that Storm Eunice is soon to make landfall. The videographer and I are scrambling to return to the other side of the Channel before it does.
