UAE weather: Motorists spend hours stuck in Dubai-Sharjah traffic jams

Main story: Heavy rain falls across the country as police issue emergency alert

Huge traffic jams were reported on roads between Sharjah and Dubai after heavy rain fell on parts of the country on Wednesday.

Motorists took to social media to express their frustration at being in traffic for hours.

Twitter user Tahir Khan said he did not move for 45 minutes.

Another said that she got stuck in traffic for three hours, “3 hours later I’m in the office, thank you #dubairain”

Another user said: “Hardest part of #dubairain is looking for a way which is not flooded.”

Mariam suggested that whoever got stuck in traffic deserves a promotion.

While Aprille Escueta was scarred to get stuck in a water puddle.

A university student said that she left her house at 9am and reached the university at 1pm due to a traffic jam.

Meanwhile, Dubai Police said 154 accidents were reported in the emirate on Wednesday due to hazardous conditions caused by the downpours.

Brigadier Saif Al Mazroui said his traffic department had intensified patrols to help manage congestion.

"Police patrols have closed some lanes and traffic has been diverted to alternative roads," he said.

He appealed to all drivers to be cautious and alert during bad weather.
