DUBAI // Traffic diversions on Sheikh Zayed Road due to the Dubai Canal project are to start on Saturday.

Dubai-bound traffic between Safa Park and Business Bay will be affected.

The number of lanes will continue to be the same to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

Maitha bin Udai, head of the Roads and Transport Authority’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said the mega-project had been divided into three phases.

The first will involve building bridges that will carry Sheikh Zayed Road traffic over the water canal. Phase two will be bridges built on Jumeirah Beach Road and on Al Wasl Road, as well as building a ramp linking Al Wasl Road with Al Hadiqa Street. And phase three will see canal digging works stretching for three kilometres, as well as a marina for yachts and the water bus being built.
