Two roads connecting to Sheikh Zayed Road with Al Yalayes Street opened on Saturday.

The new bridges are part of development plans to improve traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road by diverting motorists to parallel roads, such as Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road, through Al Yalayes Street.

They will also improve the transport of goods between Jebel Ali Port and provide additional entry/exit points for community developments in the area like Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens and Jebel Ali Development Project, the Road and Transport Authority said.

"The projects will step up the capacity of Al Yalayes Road to almost 20,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. They will also cut short the transit time between the 7th Interchange on Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to as little as four minutes," said Mattar Al Tayer, director general of the RTA.

Two more bridges are expected to open on that interchange by the end of the year, Mr Al Tayer said.
