A 19-year-old Emirati has died in a road accident in Ras Al Khaimah on Sunday that also injured her brother and two younger sisters.
GRA was travelling in the front passenger seat of a car being driven by her brother, 18-year-old SRA, on Suhaila Road. The accident happened after SRA dropped his mobile phone and tried to retrieve it, causing the car to swerve and collide with a lorry parked on the hard shoulder.
The older sister was killed while two younger sisters ARA and HRA, aged 11 and 4 respectively, suffered moderate injuries, according to Brigadier General Ghanem Ahmad Ghanem, Director General of Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police.
Civil defence, police, ambulance and rescue crews attended the scene and helped remove the victims from the wreckage before taking them to Saqr Hospital to receive treatment.
GRA died in hospital on Monday morning. Her three siblings are still receiving treatment. GRA’s body has been released to her family for burial.
