ABU DHABI // Thirty electronic traffic signs that warn motorists of changing road conditions have been installed in the capital.

Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre announced on Wednesday that 11 more variable message signs will be installed as part of a Dh70 million project.

The project also includes the installation of sensors and cameras as well as radio weather stations and a central control system.

The centre is working on improving the transport network using new technology, said Salah Al Marzouqi, director of the centre’s integrated intelligent transport systems division.

The signs have high-definition, coloured screens in various sizes, depending on the road’s speed limit and number of lanes.

They will be located in accident black spots, areas with alternative roads and before road exits. They can inform motorists about congestion, construction, roadblocks, crashes and weather conditions.
