DUBAI // A Dh300 million, five-kilometre road has opened to link Oud Metha with the Business Bay area of Dubai.

Al Asayel Road, which has two tunnels and two bridges, was opened by Mattar Al Tayer, executive director of the Roads and Transport Authority.

He said the authority planned to connect the new road with the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing via a bridge over Oud Metha to link Bur Dubai with the Lagoons, Al Warqaa, and International City.

The next stage is the Godolphin Project, which will create roads, bridges and tunnels to encourage smoother traffic flow on parallel roads and ease congestion around Zabeel.

The two tunnels in Al Asayel Road have three lanes in each direction. The first tunnel is from Zabeel Road 2 and is 850 metres long. The second branches from Trade Centre Road and is 600 metres long.

The bridges at Business Bay, with two lanes in each direction, are 700 metres long.

The development provides access to the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa through Emaar Boulevard.
