Dubai Metro commuters will no longer have to take a shuttle bus between Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Ibn Battuta stations as of Friday. The section of rail connecting the two districts has been closed since January 2018 to allow for work on the Route 2020 project. The 15km extension will connect the city with the World Expo site near Dubai's second airport, Dubai World Central. Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station was also closed. JLT station was renamed the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre station - the free zone developer that built the district - last year. "RTA makes every effort to ensure the smooth running of public transit services," Mohammed Yousef Al Mudharreb, head of rail operations at the Roads and Transport Authority.
