ABU DHABI // As of September 15, motorists involved in minor accidents in Abu Dhabi will be fined Dh200 if they fail to move their vehicles from the road.

The Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police advised motorists who are involved in minor accidents or who experience unexpected mechanical failure to move their vehicles to the road shoulder to avoid traffic obstruction and to reduce traffic congestion, reported Wam, the state news agency.

Brig Hussain Al Harthi said leaving the vehicles at the same spot on the road would endanger lives of road users and lead to unnecessary traffic jams.

He urged motorists involved in traffic accidents or who experience sudden failure of their vehicles to seek help by calling the central operations room on the number 999.

Article (12) of the Regulations for Federal Traffic Law, states that in the event of a traffic accident that does not result in a physical injury, parties involved shall park their vehicles in the nearest location that does not obstruct traffic.
