All of Dubai’s taxis are now fitted with security cameras, the Roads and Transport Authority said on Sunday. “Security cameras have been installed in 10,684 taxis comprising the entire taxi fleet in Dubai,” said Khaled Al Awadi, the authority’s director of transportation systems. “The move aims to ensure the compliance of taxi drivers with the ethical and professional principles of their business. It also prompts them to stick to exemplary attitudes when dealing with taxi riders.” The footage can be retrieved in the event of a complaint by passenger about driving standard or driver conduct. Sensors are automatically activated when passengers sit in the taxi. The first taxi surveillance cameras were introduced in 2017 and gradually rolled out across the entire fleet to ensure customer satisfaction, said the authority.
