Abu Dhabi Police highlighted the dangers of motorists not obeying pedestrian crossings in a series of shocking videos on social media.
The video, distributed on the police's social media channels, shows horrific cases of pedestrians being hit while they are trying to cross busy roads – whether at crossings or jaywalking.
In the video posted by police on Monday morning, a car is seen ploughing into a cyclist crossing a road and several pedestrians are also seen in collision with speeding cars as they try to cross a busy highway on a designated walking zone.
Refusing to stop at a pedestrian crossing to allow people to walk safely across the road can result in hefty fines.
Drivers who do not give way to pedestrians on a designated crossing face fines of Dh500 and six black points, and driving in a way that endangers civilians carries a Dh1,000 fine and 12 black points.
