ABU DHABI // Twelve pedestrian bridges are to be built in the city next year.

Abu Dhabi Municipality said it would construct the overpasses in areas with heavy traffic congestion, reported Al Ittihad, The National's sister newspaper.

The plans include bridges over Sultan bin Zayed the First Street (Muroor Road), the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain road, the Dubai motorway, Mussaffah Road, and in front of Khalidiya Mall.

Musaffah Al Marar, deputy general director at the municipality, said the bridges would “ensure safe mobility for pedestrians, prevent run-over accidents and maintain traffic flow”.
