DUBAI // Motorists in Ras Al Khaimah have been urged to take advantage of a 50 per cent discount offered on fines for traffic violations.

Colonel Ali Saeed Al Alekum, director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, urged vehicle owners to make the most of the extension of the deadline to have fines reduced up to December 10.

He said inspection campaigns will be carried out throughout the emirate to track down violating vehicles which failed to cleared fines after the deadline, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.

He added that the reduction was based on a ruling issued by Sheikh Saood Bin Saqr Al Qassimi, ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, who gave instructions to apply the discount on radar violations for all categories and types of plate numbers.

Colonel Al Alekum explained that it will relieve vehicle owners who have accumulated numerous fines.
