A bus carrying 38 workers flipped over after it was hit from behind by a lorry on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in Sharjah.
All of the Indian workers on the bus were hurt in the accident on Tuesday morning, said Maj Abdel Rahman Khattir, director of Sharjah Police traffic awareness department.
Two workers were seriously hurt, 28 suffered minor injuries, and eight had moderate injuries.
Police said the driver of the lorry, also Indian, was not paying attention to the road when he hit the rear of bus, driven by a Pakistani man.
“The truck was coming from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Ittihad Road, and the bus was approaching from Ajman’s industrial area towards Al Ittihad Road,” said Maj Khattir.
“The truck driver’s lack of focus led to the accident, in which the bus flipped. All 38 people on the bus were transferred to hospital.”
Police said that some of the injured were taken to Al Qassimi Hospital and Kuwaiti Hospital in Sharjah. Others went to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman.
“Motorists must always stay focused on the road and take precautions by wearing their seatbelts and abiding by speed limits,” said Maj Khattir. “They should never be distracted when they are on the road, for their safety and the safety of others.”
