28 road accidents over National Day break, five killed
Five people were killed and 42 others injured in 28 road accidents during the 43rd National Day break, according to the Ministry of Interior.
Brig Ghaith Al Zaabi, director general of the Traffic Coordination Department at the ministry, said the accidents from December 2-6 included eight rollovers, five runovers and 13 collisions.
Sudden swerving was the leading cause of accidents, causing eight, followed by speeding and tailgating leading to eight accidents, followed by speed without considering the road circumstances that was behind five accidents, and third came tailgating that caused four accidents, Brig Al Zaabi noted.
Excessive speed, Poor judgement, Misjudgement of road users,entering a road before it was clear, jumping a red light and failure to observe lane discipline were also accident causes.
