Public transport users in Dubai can now enjoy free parking at bus and Metro stations.
The move was ordered by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai.
A 2009 resolution was amended to allow all those using parking spaces attached to public transport stations, including the Metro, to have free parking for 24 hours.
Those using the spaces who are not using public transport will have to pay Dh10 to park for up to five hours, and Dh50 to park for longer than this.
After 24 hours, Dh50 will be charged a day. Parking for six months will cost Dh3,000, and Dh5,000 for 12 months.
Those parked without a permit, or who exceed their time limit, will be fined Dh100 a day for a maximum of 10 days.
The amendment is expected to "positively affect the regulation of parking spaces in areas designated for people who prefer to use public transportation", state news agency Wam reported.
They said it would encourage people to use public transport and lower traffic congestion.
The resolution will come into effect the day of its publication in the Official Gazette.
