Three Emiratis injured in butane car explosion

Three Emiratis were severely burned after the butane they were inhaling while sitting in their car caught fire and caused an explosion.

Capt Dr Mohammed Al Qassim, head of criminal engineering at Dubai Police Forensics, said the compressed gas was ignited after the car was started.

The explosion shattered the windows, cutting the young men's faces and hands, he said.

The fire is the seventh incident related to gas inhalation that forensic experts in Dubai have dealt with during the first half of the year, Capt Al Qassim said.

In March, two Emirati teenagers in Ajman sustained burn injuries when compressed gas they had been inhaling exploded in their vehicle.

The teenagers, ages 17 and 18, were using the gas to refill their lighters and inhale the gas in their vehicle while it was running and parked in front of a shop in Al Jurf.

The vehicle's windows shattered after the compressed gas caught fire.

Global Fungi Facts

• Scientists estimate there could be as many as 3 million fungal species globally
• Only about 160,000 have been officially described leaving around 90% undiscovered
• Fungi account for roughly 90% of Earth's unknown biodiversity
• Forest fungi help tackle climate change, absorbing up to 36% of global fossil fuel emissions annually and storing around 5 billion tonnes of carbon in the planet's topsoil

Checks continue

A High Court judge issued an interim order on Friday suspending a decision by Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots to direct a stop to Brexit agri-food checks at Northern Ireland ports.

Mr Justice Colton said he was making the temporary direction until a judicial review of the minister's unilateral action this week to order a halt to port checks that are required under the Northern Ireland Protocol.

Civil servants have yet to implement the instruction, pending legal clarity on their obligations, and checks are continuing.

So what is Spicy Chickenjoy?

Just as McDonald’s has the Big Mac, Jollibee has Spicy Chickenjoy – a piece of fried chicken that’s crispy and spicy on the outside and comes with a side of spaghetti, all covered in tomato sauce and topped with sausage slices and ground beef. It sounds like a recipe that a child would come up with, but perhaps that’s the point – a flavourbomb combination of cheap comfort foods. Chickenjoy is Jollibee’s best-selling product in every country in which it has a presence.
