DUBAI // A 19-year-old who tried to kill a policeman by stabbing him repeatedly in the chest, back and abdomen has had his three-month jail sentence upheld.

Emirati K A was convicted of attempted murder at Dubai Criminal Court in January.

The victim, H A, 20, was at a mobile technology shop in Al Baraha, Dubai, when he was attacked on April 28 last year.

The officer said in records that, as he stepped into the shop, the teenage attacker arrived with three others.

“He started fighting with one of the three friends with him, so I tried to break up the fight,” said H A.

He recalled that as he tried to leave the shop, K A followed him and pulled a knife from under his clothes before stabbing him in the back.

The officer stumbled away but noticed that the attacker had followed him into a nearby alley and then he started stabbing again.

The policeman managed to walk out of the alley and call for back-up. An ambulance arrived and he was treated at Rashid Hospital.

Court records mention that the policeman was referred to the misdemeanours court but they did not clarify the nature of charges against him.
