An Emirati drug dealer from Al Ain was arrested in possession of more than 52 kilograms of hashish.

Efforts by a joint police team from Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain, and the Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Narcotics Department, led to the arrest of M S A in early May.

“The suspect, unfortunately, is an Emirati citizen citizen in his thirties,” said Col Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police. “Dubai Police was able to attain proof that he is active in importing drugs to the country, has relations with unlawful outside forces, and every now and then transfers money to those who provide him with the narcotics to keep his dirty business going.”

“Hashish was also found in his vehicle, along with seven mobile phone as well as a number of [receipts] of financial transfers and ATM cards from different local banks,” said Col Hareb.

The man’s case has been transferred to prosecutors and is accused of dealing, smuggling, promoting and abusing drugs.

Col Hareb said there has been an increase of drug busts in last few months due to the development and efficiency of the authorities scientific and accurate strategy to catch those involved in criminal activity, adding the strategy is based on Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, the interior minister, instructions and on that of Dubai Police chief Maj Gen Khamis Mattar Al Muzeina and of CID’s Maj Gen Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri.
