DUBAI // A British medical clinic owner, his wife and an employee were all found not guilty of locking up the owner’s business partner.
The 53-year-old surgeon had problems with his partner and on May 7 last year, they met at the clinic in Silicon Oasis to discuss their issues.
The partner and his legal adviser arrived and told the surgeon that they would have to lay two employees off, one of them the surgeon’s wife.
The defendant and his wife began shouting at the two men.
“The two then pushed us inside the room and ordered one of the employees to lock the door from outside, which he did,” said the legal adviser, 50. He added that the wife tore up the termination letters and threw them on the floor.
The partner then called police, who came and requested that they all visit Al Rashidiya police station.
A policeman testified that when he arrived at the clinic, he was told that the partner and his legal adviser assaulted a client, which is why they were locked in the room.
The surgeon and his 47-year-old British wife, who was the executive manager of the clinic, as well as a Pakistani clinic employee, 34, were charged with confinement and depriving two men of their freedom, which they denied in court.
All three were acquitted of the charges.
