About Sridevi:

Bollywood movie star Sridevi arrived in the UAE last week from Mumbai to attend the wedding of her nephew Mohit Marwah to Antara Motiwala.

The celebrations were held at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Ras Al Khaimah on February 19 and 20.

Sridevi, her husband Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor and their daughter Khushi then went to Dubai for a few days where they stayed in Emirates Towers hotel.

The actress was believed to have died of a massive cardiac arrest in her hotel room in Dubai late on February 24 but the forensic report revealed that she drowned while taking a bath after losing consciousness.

The postmortem examination was completed on February 25 and showed there were traces of alcohol in her body.

Investigations are still under way to determine the remaining circumstances related to her death as the forensic report only confirmed the cause of her death.

Police have transferred the case to Dubai Public Prosecution for legal action and are awaiting remaining formalities ahead of issuing a death certificate so her family can take the body back home to Mumbai.

What is the procedure to obtain a death certificate in Dubai?

If a death occurs outside a hospital, police fill out an initial death report and the deceased is moved to a government morgue.

In case of death in a hospital, the authorities fill out an initial death report and move the deceased to a government morgue.

After the deceased is transferred to Rashid Hospital Mortuary, either by police or another hospital, Rashid Hospital will determine the cause of death and issue a report confirming the death.

Authorities at the morgue issue a death certificate declaration. The death certificate declaration is separate from the official death certificate.

This initial death report, with the deceased’s passport and visa, must be submitted to Rashid Mortuary for issuance of a death certificate declaration.

The death certificate declaration must be stamped by police who then issue a no-objection certificate to Al Baraha Hospital, Preventive Medicine Department.

Separate no-objection certificates must also be requested addressed to the airport for transportation of the body, the mortuary for embalming, and the hospital for release of the body

All the documents must be taken to Al Baraha Hospital, Preventive Medicine Department where an official death certificate will be issued.

The death certificate must be translated and attested if the body is to be flown back to the home country.

The diplomatic mission then cancels the passport to register the death in the home country.

The embassy or consulate must also issue a no-objection certificate if the body is to be flown back to the home country.
