A child has died after being hit by a speeding car.
The incident took place on Sunday morning in Kalba, Sharjah, as the child crossed a road with his parents.
The family, from Egypt, were on their way to visit friends, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.
He was taken to Kalba Hospital for surgery but died shortly after, the hospital said.
Speeding, along with tailgating and reckless driving, were the leading cause of accidents on the UAE’s roads between 2007 and 2012. According to a study, carried out by Sharjah Police traffic directorate, there were almost 39 million offences committed on the country’s roads during this time period.
