Sharjah plans for a rainy day

SHARJAH // Extensive preparations have been made by Sharjah Munipicality to avoid flooding during the rain season.

A week long plan has been executed by the rain emergency committee last week, by cleaning out the gutters and water drainage network all around the city. Vehicles and water pumps and all the equipment used to by the emergency crews have been readied to handle any upcoming emergencies.

Sharjah municipality director Riyad Alian said: “The rain emergency crew are now fully equipped and ready to intervene whenever there is flooding in the emirate.”

The director also said that the emirate is getting better every passing year in dealing with water flooding in the rain season, the response time have improved significantly, and the water drainage systems have been increased.

Sharjah has had severe problems with its roads being flooded during the rain season the past few years.
