Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, chairman of Sharjah Media Centre, stressed the significance of capitalising on international experiences and best practices in government communication after an agreement was made with Alastair Campbell.
The agreement is part of the centre’s plan to create a unique government system to handle intragovernmental communication. Mr Campbell is the former spokesman and press secretary to former British prime minister Tony Blair.
The announcement was made during a workshop moderated by Mr Campbell on government communication, the government agenda and its role in managing activities and programmes.
Sheikh Sultan praised Sharjah’s government agenda and the efforts of Mr Campbell, who pioneered a communication system in the UK and proved its success in developing a programmed strategy for government initiatives.
Mr Campbell considered the government agenda an important tool that would define Sharjah’s weekly and monthly activities and manage events that support its identity. He outlined the basic criteria for determining the events and activities to be included in the agenda.
