Sharjah committee approves Dh59.4m to settle debts

SHARJAH // A Sharjah committee has approved Dh59.4 million in funds to pay the debts of Emiratis wanted or convicted in financial cases.

The Sharjah Debt Settlement Committee approved the amount under the orders Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah.

The funds will also pay debts of Emiratis who have defaulted, reported Wam, the state news agency.

The latest allocation covers 14 groups of defaulters, said Rashid bin Al Sheikh, chief of the Sharjah Emiri Court and head of the committee.

“The committee has so far disbursed Dh416.6 million to 916 beneficiaries,” he said.

In 2015, the committee approved more than Dh46 million for settling 77 cases.

At the time, Wam reported that Mr Al Sheikh said it had disbursed more than Dh269.5 million to 647 beneficiares.
