DUBAI // A 24-year-old visitor charged with sex assault said he was offended by a woman’s offer to pay him money in return for sex, so he slapped her on her side and left, a Dubai court heard.
“I came here on a visit visa to look for work after I finished my army service back home. I didn’t come here to do anything wrong,” said the Egyptian defendant at Dubai Criminal Court.
He added that on November 10 last year, the woman started talking to him while in his building in Al Muraqqabat.
“She spoke English, which I don’t understand, then she started using sign language. She stretched her hand offering me money then pointed at her flat door. I understood what she wanted and I was offended, so I hit her on her side, I didn’t touch her behind,” said the accused to judges.
However, prosecutors said that he confessed during interrogations to a sex assault charge and that a recording from security cameras showed he touched the woman’s behind.
A verdict is expected on January 16.
