Seven people have been arrested in connection with the death of a woman who was found strangled in her Abu Dhabi home.

Police said the 38-year-old, described as Asian, was killed during a robbery.

The force released pictures of six men and a woman, all described as Asian, who were arrested.

The gang stole cash, gold jewellery, a laptop and mobile devices during the break-in.

Police said the female suspect was a friend of the victim and described them as "roommates".

Officers did not say where in the city the incident took place, but said the victim's body was found at home.

“The CID team were immediately dispatched to the scene where they found the body of the women, which appeared to have been strangled, and with obvious signs of physical abuse,” Col Tarek Al Ghoul, deputy director of Criminal Investigation Department.

“Initial investigations also showed that the victim’s valuable possessions had also been stolen, including cash money, golden jewellery, a laptop and mobile devices."

Maj Gen Omair Al Muhairi, director general of Criminal Security Sector, said that the female suspect was behind the plan to break into the victim's home.

“They stole and killed the victim due to a dispute between the victim and her roommate,” he said.

One of the suspects was caught trying to sell the gold jewellery, without proof that he owned it.

“The suspects admitted the crime and the case was transferred to the judicial authorities to complete the legal procedures,” said Col Al Ghoul.
