DUBAI // A janitor serving a five-year jail sentence for raping his roommate must see-out his term, the Court of Appeal has ruled.

During a trial in May last year, Pakistani M G, 31, said he was too drunk to remember what happened, but denied attacking G T, his 22-year-old Nepali roommate, on January 2.

“All of the flatmates had left the apartment except me and the defendant. He was drinking alcohol heavily,” G T told police.

He said the defendant lunged at him and grabbed him from behind.

“I couldn’t free myself because he was stronger than me.”

G T then described how he was raped for 15 minutes before he went to building security, and informed them of the incident. Security called police.

Police officer A A, 45, said he found the Pakistani on his bed.

“The defendant reeked with the smell of alcohol,” A A said.

A forensic report showed signs of sexual assault on the victim, and DNA samples matched the defendant.

M G denied the rape charge and told the presiding judge that he was drunk at the time and could not remember the incident.

In February, M G was sentenced to five years in jail to be followed by deportation.
