Security guard who bit husband and wife to be deported

DUBAI // A security guard who was cleared of sexually assaulting a student but convicted of biting her parents when they tried to restrain him, will be deported after prosecutors appealed against his jail term.

The 37-year-old Pakistani was sentenced to one month in jail and fined Dh1,000 for physical assault, however, Dubai Criminal Court did not order his deportation.

Prosecutors sought a harsher punishment at Dubai Court of Appeal, which upheld the jail term and added deportation.

At 9pm on August 14 last year, the Pakistani approached the 21-year-old in her building’s gym in Bur Dubai and told her it was about to close.

“When I tried to leave I found the door locked, then he came towards me and attempted to sexually assault me,” said the woman, adding she pushed the man away and ran to her flat where she told her parents what had happened.

The guard ran off when he saw the woman and her parents.

The guard bit the student’s 52-year-old father on the finger and his wife on the arm as they restrained him before police arrived.

“I confronted him but he denied it and said he had no idea why she was accusing him of such a thing, and when I asked about camera footage, he said there were no cameras,” the father said.

The guard was charged with sexual assault, which he denied in court.

“I assaulted them only after they assaulted me, but I didn’t molest their daughter,” he said.
