DUBAI // A security guard will spend a year in jail after being convicted of sexually assaulting a housekeeper.

At the Dubai Criminal Court in April this year, Indian A A, 31, denied a charge of rape and told the presiding judge he had consensual sex with Filipina A B.

The 32-year-old victim told prosecutors she worked at company that cleaned villas. On the day of the incident on July 5 last year, she was cleaning a bedroom when A A came into the room.

“The villa owner was not there at the time, the defendant came to the bedroom and asked me to sit on the bed,” she said.

When I asked him why, he pushed me on the bed and jumped on top of me, A B said.

“He pinned me on the bed and took off my clothes before he raped me,” said the victim, adding that the assault lasted for 10 minutes before A A got up and told her to not tell anyone what had happened.

Yemeni Police officer A M A, 43, testified that A B came to the police station to report being raped.

“She told us that she tried to resist the rape but he overpowered her,” said officer.

A B told officers she didn’t scream for help because she was in a state of shock and fear.

A A was arrested at the villa. He will be deported after completing his jail term.
