DUBAI // A sales manager is accused of threatening to kill his landlord over the charge for damages he caused to his rented flat.

Dubai Criminal Court was told that American H L, 42, rented the Motor City flat four years ago but this year problems erupted between him and Indian landlord P P, 50.

“I filed a complaint against him and I won an order of evacuation of the flat,” said P P, adding that on August 27 he visited the flat to check for any damages and found a number of them.

“I started writing down a list of all the damages to the cabinets, balcony door, light bulbs and other items and also wanted to take pictures of them in order to deduct their cost from the Dh5,000 H L had paid as guarantee when he first rented the flat.”

The Indian said that while he was writing the list, the American stopped him and told him to return the Dh5,000 without deducting anything.

“He said to me: ‘I will break your head and I will kill you’,” P P told prosecutors, adding that several maintenance workers were present and witnessed the incident.

The American denied the charge of issuing threats to kill when he appeared in court.

The next hearing will be on November 24.
