DUBAI // A retired police officer jailed five years for raping a colleague’s 13-year-old daughter has had his prison term doubled by the Dubai Court of Appeal.

The man, 55, who holds a Comoros Islands passport, was arrested on August 11 last year in Al Rafaa with the girl in his car.

“We had him under observation and made the arrest when he met the girl and her brothers,” said an Emirati police officer.

The man had befriended the girl and her two siblings while they were fishing and told them he used to work with their father at Dubai Police.

He won their trust by buying them presents and food and would meet up with them regularly.

The girl said he would give her brothers money and send them off to buy food then sexually abuse her while they were gone.

“I was afraid to tell my mother,” she said.

Police said they found several images of naked women on the man’s phone and alcohol in his car.

A medical examination showed the girl had been raped and traces of her DNA were found on the defendant’s body and in his car.

He denied a charge of rape in the criminal and appeal courts. But his sentence was doubled to 10 years after prosecutors appealed against it.
